With the lockdown still in place and uncertainty about what the immediate future held for grassroots football, nothing was going to stop Southwater Royals FC launching a brand new U10 Girls team.
Despite the difficulties with FA guidelines, COVID restrictions this amazing group of your players came together and have already established themselves as key members of the ever increasing number of girls teams at the club.
As the very short season drew to a close, Matt Camp, Team Manager shared how proud he is of the new team:
"Extremely proud of our group of U10 Girls.
After only coming together just as winter lockdown hit, so many of them had received minimal training, let along match time, before that point.
Eventually we got a series of 8 friendlies, which were bookended by games with Crawley Wasps. Mid April saw a very painful first outing, but week-by-week they have worked on being brave & smart, they’ve found the confidence to take a touch in whatever scenario, and they’ve improved immeasurably at finding space and a pass.
Their final fixture together of the season this morning saw them not only hold their own against Wasps at their place, but also showed how they’ve come together as a group and demonstrated support, honesty and fairness.
Thank you to everyone for the help with the team; to all the parents who have supported what we’re doing; and to all those at the club that have got this team up and running mid-season.
Really looking forward to what next season brings".
Well done girls, we too cant wait to hear how your doing next season!!
