"Fantastic, Disciplined, Spirited" U16's Sweet Success

Its been a tough start to the season for our U16's with key personnel changes and a difficult start to the season in the League. Saturday was the first game for a revitalised and refreshed looking squad with all to play for in the Cup!

Match Report from Fraser Sharman-Patch U16's Caretaker Manager

"A fantastic, disciplined and spirited performance saw Southwater Royals U16's play against Lingfield at home on Saturday morning.

The boys were playing in a 4-3-3 formation for the first time and took the lead through a tidy Troy Head finish.

A period of attacking play followed and the boys were unlucky not to score several times, hitting the bar and having one cleared off the line.

After a period of sustained Royals pressure, Ethan Gillespie fired one in from the edge of the box to establish a well deserved 2-0 lead.

Lingfield got themselves back in the game shortly after, and scored against the run of play to bring it back to 2-1 before the half time interval.

Thankfully Ethan rounded off an excellent performance with another goal mid way through the second half, to seal a convincing 3-1 victory.

In a game of many stand-out performances it was impossible to separate the outstanding efforts of both full backs Harvey Birdseye and Dan Ford. With excellent work rates and invaluable attacking play down each wing, both were awarded player of the match. Well done boys!

We now progress to the next round of the Cup thanks to an entertaining 3-1 victor".

Congratulations U16's what a great start!
